The Basic Sewing Supplies - Sewing Machine

Updated: May 29, 2020

If you are just starting your sewing adventure you need some basic supplies.

Let's start with a sewing machine. There are plenty of options. I would recommend you to get a Singer sewing machine; I have an excellent experience with the brand. The options can be overwhelming, so first you need to set your goal: what do you want from sewing? Do you just want to make adjustments to your clothing? or do you want to adventure in the embroidery or quilting world? or maybe you want to start sewing your own clothing. There are different options for all of that, the prices go from $80 to thousands.

I started sewing with my old-very-old mom's Singer sewing machine, it worked just fine. After my first experiences sewing, I found out sewing was a passion for me, so I decided to get on board completely in the adventure and bought myself a computerized one. After a lot of research I found the one I wanted, Singer Quantum Stylist 9960, and later, after a long wait for it to be on sale, I got it from Amazon for $330.

Later on, I got myself a Singer Stylist II Serger. With this beauty, you can stitch a seam, trim the excess seam allowance, and overcast the edge of your fabric in just one step, getting a more professional finish.

Once you decide what you want to do, and you get your very first new, borrowed, or second-hand sewing machine you are on board!!

See you in the next stitch!

Happy Sewing!
