DIY Fabric Face Mask- Kids and Adult sizes

Updated: Jun 17, 2020

Hi back! This was't supposed to be one of my first posts, but the COVID-19 situation calls for it. I'm gonna show you how to sew a face mask. There's a slight difference between sewing the toddler and the adult sizes, so I'll tell you how to do both of them.

First, let's start with the supplies. You'll need two pieces of 100% cotton fabric and elastic. There's a size chart at the bottom of the post.

Toddler Face Mask

Steps:

1. Cut the cotton fabric into two 6' x 7' rectangles

2. Cut two 5.5' pieces of elastic

3. Layer your fabrics right sides together

4. Pin the elastics to the corners on the smaller side of the rectangle, as shown in the pictures below

5. Pin the fabrics together leaving a 2.5' opening, and sew around the edges

6. Turn the mask right side out. Fold 3 pleats, the final size should be 2.5'. Sew along the sides. All done! The mask will have an opening for filters

Adult Face Mask

Steps:

1. Cut the cotton fabric into two 8' x 9' rectangles

2. Cut two 6' pieces of elastic

3. Layer your fabrics right sides together

4. Pin one end of each elastic to the corners on the smaller side of the rectangle, as shown in the picture below. Pin the fabrics together, and sew around the edges

5. Pin the lose end of each elastic to the remaining corners. Pin the fabric as shown in the pictures and sew around the edges leaving a 2.5' opening

6. Turn the mask right side out. Fold 3 pleats, the final size should be 3.5'. Sew along the sides. All done! The mask will have an opening for filters
